The Certified Hydrogen Sulfide (H₂S) Safety Training (CHST) course provides essential knowledge and practical skills for employees, supervisors, contractors, and safety professionals working in environments where Hydrogen Sulfide (H₂S) gas may be present. Hydrogen Sulfide (H₂S), commonly known as sour gas, is a highly toxic, colorless gas that can be fatal even at low concentrations. Although it has a characteristic rotten egg odor, exposure to elevated concentrations quickly deadens the sense of smell, making it extremely dangerous without proper monitoring and protective measures. This course provides a thorough understanding of H₂S properties, toxicity, exposure limits, health effects, and OSHA and API regulatory requirements for safe workplace operations.
Participants will learn how to identify H₂S hazards, recognize high-risk work areas, use gas detection and monitoring equipment, and apply engineering controls and safe work practices to minimize exposure. The course also covers respiratory protection, personal protective equipment (PPE), emergency evacuation procedures, confined space considerations, rescue awareness, incident reporting, and emergency response planning.
